Auto Security

Important Auto Security Features

A car is a very important investment. It costs a lot. We don’t want it to get stolen. Nor do we want the valuables inside it be stolen. Thieves today do their work as they please. I had an experience where our cellphones inside our car were stolen. What’s worse is that the car is just parked outside a church. This is why we make our best efforts to equip our cars with the best security features there is in the market. Here are some important auto security features.

1. Engine immobilizer – Some cars are equipped with an electronic device often called “immobilizer” that prohibits a car from running, unless a correct combination of keys or passcodes are pressed. This helps secure your car and prevents thieves from hot-wiring your car.
2. Alarm system - It is important that you check for the existence of sensors that react to unfamiliar motion surrounding your car. Someone might already be stealing your car without you knowing it because you are busy with your work at the hundredth floor of your office building. Alarm systems are triggered when someone tries to open the doors of your car or breaks the windows.
3. Central locking – This gives control to the driver so that he can push only one button which will lock all the doors of the car. This is a very important feature because it helps you secure your car in case the passengers forget to lock the doors.
4. A lockable fuel cap – so that no one will steal your fuel. It also prevents your fuel from spilling off.
5. Secure spare tire - Flat tires are almost always unavoidable. Always have a spare tire inside your car, or attach it outside. If the tire is outside the vehicle, make sure that it is locked, and no one can get the tire.
6. Secure luggage area - Make sure that the luggage area of your car is secure so that it is difficult to penetrate your car from within.
7. Global Positioning System (GPS) – Many cars are already equipped with GPS so that it is easy for the passengers to navigate a place. On the other hand, GPS can be a very good security feature for your car since you can readily trace where your car is located, in case that all preliminary security features failed.
8. Disarm – Sometimes, your car’s alarm just goes off when its sensor encounters a heavy motion, such as when a truck passes by your car. It is important that you can disarm your alarm in case of false alarms.
9. SMS-Messaging – Some cars are equipped with this feature where your car sends you an SMS message reporting its status. It keeps you up-to-date with your own car. This also helps you track down your car in case it gets stolen.
10. Laminated/Double Glass/Tinted glass – hard to break glass parts from your car can be an essential security feature as it prohibits thieves from breaking easily into your car. A tinted glass also avoids inviting thieves because they cannot see the valuables inside your car.
