Geico Direct
Getting Insured with Geico
Direct
When choosing a car insurance, it is a
good idea to get several rates so that you can go with the
lowest one. All insurance companies are different and
they are all different for different people.
The Experiment
Two people who both had Progressive Direct insurance.
After seeing several commercials on televison stating that
Geico Direct could save it’s customers hundreds of dollars, the
two Progressive Direct customers decided to put it to the
test. They decided that they would get quotes and see if
these commercials are in fact true.
Kerri’s Quote
Kerri went online with Geico Direct first to see what type of
rate she would get. When she first went onto the website,
she saw all of the options. With Geico Direct, she could
get a quote, change her policy, and pay her bill, all
online. She went to the “get a quote” section and she
clicked on it.
She was asked a series of questions first. The website
asked her first, several questions regarding her car. It
asked for the make of her car. She entered Pontiac and
several options of models appeared. She clicked on Grand Am and
several years appeared on the screen. Her car was a
1999. She clicked on it. After filling in that
information she was asked to enter the car’s vehicle
identification number (VIN). This number can be found in
several places. The easiest places to find this number is
either on the vehicle’s registration or on the vehicle’s
title. It can also be found on a couple places inside the
vehicle, however, these numbers are very difficult to
see. Kerri got the VIN number for her car and entered it
into the space provided. Next, the Geico Direct site took
Kerri to questions regarding the safety features available in
her car. The first question was regarding anti lock
breaks. She did have them so she clicked on that
option. The next feature asked for was automatic
seatbelts. Kerri’s vehicle did not have automatic
seatbelts so she did not click on that option. The third
option that they gave was air bags. Kerri’s vehicle did
have air bags so she clicked on it.
After Kerri entered all of the information regarding her
vehicle, the Geico website wanted some information about
Kerri. The first part it asked was personal information
about herself. The site had a place for her to enter her
name, address, telephone number, city, state, and zip
code. She was also asked to enter her social security
number, her sex, and her marital status. Some of this
information was needed to give an accurate quote and other
information was not. After Kerri entered her information,
the website
went to a section regarding her
driving record. It first asked her long she was a
licenced driver for. Kerri entered seventeen years.
After that, they wanted to know about Kerri’s driving record it
the last three years. Kerri entered all of the
information which was necessary. Kerri had not been in an
accident, had a speeding ticket, or had a traffic violation in
the past three years, or ever. She did not have much to
enter in that section. The next section Kerri went to was
the section where she chose the type of insurance she wanted,
whether full coverage or collision only. She then had to
decide how much she wanted for bodily injury, property damage,
and vehicle damage. There were amounts beginning from
$30,000 and going as high as $100,000 for each. After
choosing the policy that she wanted, she pressed enter and
waited for her quote. The quote that she got was $527 for
the first six months. It was $87 less than what she was
paying with Progressive Direct. Kerri decided to purchase
the policy.
Jason’s Quote
After Kerri found out that she would save $87, Jason decided
that he would try to see what he could save if he went online
for a quote. He went to the beginning of the quote
section just like Kerri did. He began filling out
information about his vehicle. He had a truck and it was
much newer. Next the site asked about the safety features
on his truck. He had all of them except for the automatic
seatbelts, just like Kerri’s car.
When Jason was asked for his driving record, he got a bit
worried. He was in two accidents in the past three years
and he also had a speeding ticket and one traffic
violation. He knew that this would make his insurance
rate go up. After Jason filled out the section on his
accidents filled out the questions about himself.
When he got to the section regarding the type of insurance, he
did not have too many choices. Because he was still
paying off his truck, he had to get full coverage.
Kerri’s car was paid off and she did not have to get full
coverage. Jason was forced to get the full benefits
offered on each of the options. When Jason was finished
entering all of his information, the website began to calculate
his quote. He would be paying $882 for six months.
That amount was $126 more than what he was paying with
Progressive Direct.
The Conclusion
Kerri and Jason both got insurance quotes from Geico
Direct. They both had different types of vehicles and
different driving records. One of them was a male and one
was a female. One of them saved money and one did
not. Geico Direct will not always help one save on car
insurance but sometimes it will. Kerri was happy that she
got the quote because she saved money. Jason did not mind
that he got the quote. He was not obligated to purchase a
policy and Geico Direct did not call him to pressure him.
